with two PREVIEW NIGHTS July 22-23 at 8:00PM

Shakespeare Returns to Ashford Manor for a 7th Year

Rose of Athens Theatre brings laughter, love, and bad wigs to Ashford Manor B&B with The Reduced Shakespeare Company’s The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged. The company welcomes back to the Director’s chair, Danielle Bailey Miller. She has worked with RoA for seven seasons and is no stranger to the lawn, having performed and produced in five other Shakespeare on the Lawn productions since 2010. Miller is excited about the upcoming production, “This summer, we are shaking up the traditional RoA Shakespeare on the Lawn experience. Audience goers will be treated to a zippy, zany, romp through all 37 of the bard’s plays. If you hate traditional Shakespearean performances, you’ll LOVE it. If you enjoy traditional Shakespearean performances, you’ll LOVE it.” The Complete Works of William Shakespeare: Abridged is fast, fun, physical and irreverently hilarious.

Ben Brantley of The New York Times, THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) embodies one of comedy’s most essential impulses: the adolescent urge to take a baseball bat to the culturally revered. A mix of pratfalls, puns, willful mis-readings of names and dialogue, clunky female impersonations, clean-cut ribaldry, and broad burlesque. The gung-ho vitality is impossible to resist. The conversion of the histories into a football game is very funny. So is a rap version of OTHELLO. HAMLET truly soars and allows the actors to come into their own as manic clowns. At its giddiest, its tone recalls the fabled Bullwinkle cartoon shows.”

There will be a PREVIEW NIGHT on July 22 & 23 at 8:00 PM with a discounted ticket price of $7.00! That’s the Bard’s Bargain!
